Boat Project Recently Completed

During the month of February, TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale completed a yard period where scheduled maintenance and special projects were completed on their 46' launch boat. Typical maintenance items like bottom paint, topsides paint, propeller tuning and zinc anode replacement took place during this time and the boat is now back in service and looking better than ever. The Fleet Operations staff at TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale also completed a major upgrade to the fendering on the boat to improve the company's ability to safely approach ships and make personnel and cargo transfers offshore of the South Florida coast. Director of Operations Kevin Collins designed and directed the installation of the new fendering which involved welding aluminum mounting pads to the forward third of the boat and attaching aircraft tires to them using large stainless fasteners. Collins explains, "We needed to upgrade our fendering to improve the safety and reliability of our launch services. The new system helps our captains feel more confident when coming alongside ships, tugs and barges, knowing that they can stay alongside for extended periods without causing damage to the ship or the launch boat allowing us to safely transfer passengers with a reduced risk of injury. The project turned out better than we had hoped!" The boat is also equipped with custom hand railings, non skid decks and a deckhand is on board for each and every launch, all in an effort to insure passenger safety.
