TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale Transports 47' Outer Limits
From Nassau Bahamas On The Deck of their 96' OSV
What do you do when you find yourself on a boat broken down in the Bahamas during the Holidays when the wind is howling from the North? This question was a reality for one boater near Nassau Bahamas in late December 2010. A South Florida boat owner found himself down one engine, 5 miles east of Eleuthera Bahamas. He promptly called BoatU.S. to inquire about his options and TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale sprung into action.
The customer continued on One Engine to Hurricane Hole in Nassau to regroup and wait for a weather window for safe towage home. TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale's Director of Operations Kevin Collins decided to solve the customer's problem in a unique way. He would take weather out of the equation and place the High Valued 47' Outer Limits on the 50' x 22' deck of the company's 96' O.S.V., Richard L. Becker for the trip back to Fort Lauderdale; all before the New Year.
The customer agreed with Kevin that this method of delivery was far safer and quicker than waiting for suitable weather and towing the vessel. The first step was to have the trailer for the 47' Outer Limits delivered to the secure dock of the Richard L. Becker, where it was stored until everyone was ready to embark. The next step was using the Richard L. Becker's 7.5 ton Knuckle Boom Crane to lift the trailer onto the deck. After the Trailer was secured, the Richard L. Becker was on her way to Nassau. Upon arrival, the Crew of the Richard L. Becker cleared customs and quickly met a land based crane that was pre arranged and standing by when the boat arrived at the dock. Once the Outer Limits was secured on deck, the Richard L. Becker returned to her dock in Dania Beach where this unusual cargo was offloaded using a Land Based Crane.
This customer was able to get his boat back to Ft. Lauderdale quickly and safely during a season that is known for high winds and heavy seas. Towing a vessel like this in rough seas could potentially cause damage to deck hardware or other parts of the boat; this method helped alleviate these concerns.
