Hall of Fame Marina Hosts National Marina Day Event
On Saturday, August 8th, 2009, Hall of Fame Marina hosted an event to commemorate National Marina Day. Local marine interests supported the event which was designed to help educate public officials, civic leaders and the general population about the important role that marinas play in cities and towns across the nation as family-friendly gateways to boating and stewards of the environment. Several local businesses as well as Federal, State and local agencies provided support for the event including; Ft Lauderdale Fire Rescue, Sea Scouts, United States Coast Guard, TowBoatU.S. Ft Lauderdale, Pro Dive International, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The event was on a typical hot and sunny South Florida summer day. The Sea Scouts arrived bright and early to avoid some of the heat while they participated in a beach clean-up directly across the street from the Hall of Fame Marina. Mayor Jack Seiler attended to show his support for the marine industry. Capt Mike Knecht and Capt Brad Cunningham from TowBoatU.S. Ft Lauderdale spent the day educating attendees on some of the basics of towing and giving tours of their yacht towing flag ship, the tug Shillelagh. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue had one of their impressive fire trucks on display and gave the Sea Scouts and other children who attended turns sitting behind the wheel. Representatives from Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale were present giving tours of their fast response vessel while the Coast Guard Auxiliary gave courtesy marine examinations to any vessel that stopped bye.
The Management of Hall of Fame Marina rounded out the day by offering a complimentary Barbeque lunch which was provided by Coconuts Bahama Grill.
