Join TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale to Help Cleanup Our Waterways
TowBoatU.S. New River is assisting the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) in their longstanding effort to clean up the local waterways on Saturday, March 10, 2012. MIASF hosts one of the nation's largest one day cleanup efforts annually. Last year, 18.6 tons of trash and debris was removed from local waterways, rivers and canals by over 1,180 volunteers by land and by boat.
In previous years, TowBoatU.S. New River assisted the cleanup by providing transportation to the Sea Cadets so they could safely collect debris on their 36' landing craft pictured above. "We are excited to help the Sea Cadets by donating the use of our landing craft again for this year's cleanup efforts. The unique deck space and the ability to maneuver large pieces of debris were instrumental for the cadets to cleanup large amounts of trash in years past," Barney Hauf, Director of Sales explained. Youth groups are a large percentage of the participants, but the association welcomes all age groups to participate in this great event.
Following the cleanup, an appreciation party aptly coined "The Trash Bash" will be held for all of the sponsors and volunteers. This year's Trash Bash will be held at the Downtowner Saloon immediately following the cleanup. Free food, drinks and live music will be featured for the volunteers to enjoy in appreciation for all of their hard work. Also, the day's collection results and sponsor recognition will be highlighted at a press conference held during the festivities.
