Hurricane Dorian Photo Album
Scenes like the one above were everywhere as residents, Insurance claims professionals and Marine Salvors slowly made their way to the Abaco Islands after Hurricane Dorian passed over leaving devastating damage in its wake. Hope Town, Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay, Guana Cay, Man O War Cay, and Green Turtle were just some of the hardest hit areas. Dorian’s 185 MPH sustained winds were the strongest to strike the Bahamas since 1851. As a result, infrastructure was nonexistent as crews attempted to assess damages. It took nearly a month before vessel recovery work began in earnest due to the challenges that workers faced. Hundreds of boats were deemed Constructive Total Losses while hundreds more sustained extensive (but repairable) damage. Follow along our Photo Album below to get a taste of the scope of work that our team undertook. After salvage work was complete, many of the boats were towed back to the U.S. for repairs. The TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale team did dozens of these tows, some of which are still happening as this is being written 6 months later.
The crew at TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale wishes the residents of the Bahamas the very best as they continue the rebuilding process. The Bahamian people are resilient and incredibly resourceful. It may take some time, but we urge cruisers to monitor progress and help fuel the economy in the Bahamas in the years to come by continuing to visit and cruise this spectacular chain of islands.
