Richard L. Becker Deployed as one of three
Sentinel Boats Assisting with the Gulf Oil Disaster
In early June TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale's 96' steel hulled work boat M/V Richard L. Becker was called to duty in the Gulf of Mexico to monitor a portion of the Deepwater Horizon spill. U.S. Coast Guard planes fly over the area daily to identify specific areas of concern. As the Coast guard communicates their findings to the Florida Peninsula command Post, detailed orders are passed to the crew of the Richard L. Becker to proceed to several positions each day. A Scientist from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection is on board the boat and is tasked with taking water samples and recovering samples of tar balls that may be discovered.
