U Frame is Available for Charters
TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale is proud to announce the recent addition of a U frame to their array of equipment available for charter customers on their 96' OSV Richard L. Becker. In the early stages of the project, a naval architect considered the requested size and capacity of the unit and produced a set of plans for review. The final plans were approved after serious consideration was given to safety and vessel stability. The plans became a reality when the 16' tall U Frame went into production late in 2011. The unit features a 12 foot throat and it articulates allowing the crew to swing loads up to 8 tons on board safely and efficiently. This new gear was delivered, fitted and tested along with a heavy duty winch in late May 2012 and was put to use off the coast of Virginia Beach in early June. Built to compliment the knuckle boom deck crane, the U frame increases the safe working load in rougher seas while the crane will be used to move items around the deck before and after deployment. In addition, the U Frame is removable for jobs that require more clear deck space. Kevin Collins, Director of Operations stated, "The installation of the new U frame will expand our ability to meet our customer's growing needs. We are excited about the possibilities it will bring."
