Interesting Piece of History Refloated In Ft. Lauderdale
In early April, a 20 Meter replica of the Jules Vernes 7 was dewatered after her bilge pumps failed at a dock on a canal off the New River in Ft. Lauderdale. What makes this story interesting is not the dewatering process or the role that TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale played in saving the vessel. The interest lies in the fact that this yacht was modeled after and built using methods that date back to about 600BC. The build was completed in Syria in 2008 and the vessel successfully completed a voyage in 2019 totaling over 6000 miles including circumnavigation of Africa. A primary objective of the expedition was to prove that the Phoenicians were the greatest seafarers of their time and had the raw materials, ship building skills and navigation skills to successfully complete a journey of this magnitude well before Christopher Columbus.
