M/V Richard L. Becker
Undergoes Scheduled Maintenance in November 2018
In late 2018 TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale’s 96’, M/V Richard L. Becker finished up her 5 year USCG and ABS inspection and was splashed with a clean bill of health! During this yard period, the boat received fresh coatings both above and below the waterline. The crane was removed from the boat and is getting a full refit to ensure trouble free service for many years to come. Many other systems received routine maintenance and all steel was tested and areas of concern were addressed appropriately.
This vessel spends her time supporting operations that are as varied as they are exciting. Over the past several years she has chased down NOAA buoys that were adrift, towed disabled vessels from distant foreign ports, located airplane wreckage in deep water off the Bahamas and so much more! In preparation for a month-long Navy Operation that took place in the summer of 2018, some improvements have been made. The boat’s satellite communications system was upgraded substantially to allow data transfer at much greater speed, a hydraulic hauler was added that will aid in deployment and retrieval of electronic instruments, the passenger berthing quarters was retrofitted with a Stateroom featuring 4 bunks to allow greater privacy when the passengers are male and female. With each improvement that is thoughtfully made to the vessel, she becomes a much more valuable asset to the company and their customer base.
