108’ Sportfisherman Hard Aground in San Salvador, Bahamas

In April of 2018, a 108’ Burger ran aground while exiting the inlet at Riding Rock Marina in San Salvador, Bahamas. A crew made up of salvors from TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale and partners from the Bahamas were assembled quickly and efficiently. Some arrived by air and others by sea to perform the salvage but all were on scene by nightfall on the day of the grounding.

The crew assessed the damage, rigged pumps and applied patching material to areas of the aluminum hull that had been compromised by the hard grounding. A swell was building and the vessel was in jeopardy of sustaining further damage the longer she sat aground. The vessel was pulled to deeper water without incident as high tide approached and patches were reinforced for the long trip back to Palm Beach, Florida. Pumps and skilled salvors remained on board for the 3-day tow. The salvage team on board monitored bilge levels, energized pumps as needed and stayed in constant communication with the crew of the tug. The owner of the vessel had already finalized plans to load his boat on a ship for transport to New Zealand prior to the boat running aground and was able to keep his shipping schedule which he had already paid for in full with a contract that stated that the funds were nonrefundable.
