Marlow Explorer Salvage
Was a Success in the Southern Bahamas
TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale partnered with Bahamian Salvors, Overseas Salvage to successfully recover an 85’ Marlow Explorer in late January 2015. Two TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale salvage divers boarded a plane in Ft. Lauderdale. After a series of flights, road trips and skiff rides, they island hopped from Long Island to Crooked Island and eventually to the cove on Acklins Island where the casualty was lying beam to the sea and aground. They were joined by the crew from Overseas Salvage who steamed from the Exumas aboard the salvage vessel Amazing Grace. Pumps were staged in the only area that was flooding, near the stern of the boat in the crew quarters. A pump was also rigged and ready in the engine room in the event that flooding became an issue in that space. The vessel was rigged by the bow and pulled free from the strand in 4’-5’ swells, during high tide at 2:30 in the morning on a pitch black night. Although they were up much of the night, the weary crew was all smiles as the casualty slowly eased back into the sea after over an hour of steady pressure from the tug. Several days later Amazing Grace passed the tow to TowBoatU.S. Launch southwest of Nassau Bahamas. After 5 days and 410 miles of towing in rough sea conditions, care, custody and control was turned over to the owner’s representatives at Rybovich boatyard in West Palm Beach. Then the crew of the 46’ TowBoatU.S. Launch returned to the home dock in Ft. Lauderdale to ready their boat for her next adventure!
