TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale
Is Building a Brand New Website!

The Administrative and Information Technology team at TowBoatU.S Ft. Lauderdale is just days away from going live with a new and improved website. After nearly a year of building substantive content and fine tuning the design of the new site, the company's I.T. Associate, Brian Warrick is completing the final touches to a website that the company believes will be second to none in the industry.

Some of the new features that will be included in the site are as follows:

  • A link to the companies Face Book Fan page.
  • A link to Company YouTube videos.
  • A new page containing Nautical News so you can view the latest happenings in all divisions of the company.
  • TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale Apparel will be available for purchase.
  • A fresh new look with detailed descriptions of each of the services offered by the company.

Check back in the very near future at www.towboatusftlauderdale.com to be one of the first to preview the site! The first 5 people that email barney@towboatusftlauderdale.com with the name of the Bertram that burned in Port Everglades in January of 2010 will receive a free TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale T-Shirt. TowBoatU.S. New River
Begins Construction of a New Yacht Towing Tug

March 2010 was an exciting month at TowBoatU.S. New River! The company embarked on a project that will transform a trusty towboat that the company has owned for nearly 5 years into a powerful tug designed for the demands of their South Florida Yacht Towing business. The Fleet Maintenance staff at TowBoatU.S. New River undertook the task of disassembling the entire boat down to the stringers; shortly thereafter she was delivered to a local yard where the fabrication process began. Jeff Hamilton, the company's Fleet Maintenance Supervisor noted "We have plans to build new engine beds to support the twin John Deere Diesel Motors. 2.75:1 reduction gears have been selected while shafts, struts and rudders will be custom built for our application. We talked a lot about the best way to cool the engines and have settled on keel cooling. This method will greatly reduce the risk of overheating a motor due to debris being ingested into a typical raw water strainer...a risk that our yacht towing supervisor Mike Knecht urged us to avoid. We are all looking forward to adding this purpose built tug to our yacht towing fleet!"

Dusky Marine built many of these boats back in the seventies and eighties; the hull is nearly 1" thick and constructed of solid fiberglass laminate providing a great base to build a heavy duty tug. Future issues of the New River Navigator will include progress updates and photos of the entire construction process. Contact TowBoatU.S. New River for more information or if you are in need of the companies assistance.

Barney Hauf Goes to Jail
For Good!

Barney Hauf, the Director of Sales and Personnel for TowBoatU.S. Ft Lauderdale went to Jail on April 14th 2010 to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The annual lock-up event depends upon people throughout Broward County taking a little time out of their busy schedules, reaching out to friends, family and business associates to help by donating money to a worthy cause.

Barney said "I just want to thank everyone that helped me raise over $1000.00 for this great charity! I received generous donations from people throughout the Marine Industry as well as from my family and friends. My jail sentence was from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. at Chima Brazilian Steakhouse in Ft. Lauderdale....Not a bad place to serve a sentence!" Other Marine industry professionals donated their time and joined Barney in Jail; Richard Ryan from Seacor Holdings was the top bail raiser with $7,000.00, as well as representatives from Lauderdale Diving, Unlimited Marine Services, Boat International, Sundance Marine, Yacht registry Services, Fronte Crane, Maritime Executive Magazine and Yacht Fitters.

The $1000.00 that Barney raised would not have been possible without support from the people and company's listed; each dedicated to the growth of our industry!
